Ronny Chieng
Ronny Chieng
was born on 21 November 1985. Chieng is currently a Senior Correspondent for
The Daily Show, Comedy Central. He is also the creator and star on the sitcom
Ronny Chieng International Student. The show premiered on ABC Australia and
Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born to an Malaysian Chinese couple in
Johor Bahru (Malaysia). From 1989 to 1994, he lived in Manchester in New
Hampshire. Chieng was a performer with Trevor Noah in 2013 at the Comedy
Festival in Melbourne, Australia. He was then asked to be a candidate for the
role as a correspondent for Noah's Daily Show two years after. In July of 2016
Chieng was named one of the top 10 comics you should be watching by Variety In
October of 2016, Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to give his opinion on a
Jesse Watters Fox News segment considered racist by many. Chieng is known for
his expletive-laden criticism of the segment on the network that is
conservative. He also visited NewYork City's Chinatown in which Watters mocked
the residents. The viral video garnered attention in Slate as well as the
Washington Post. In his early years, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. Chieng
has not been able to gain citizenship or permanent residence in Australia
despite living in Australia for ten years. In the year 2018 Chieng admitted
that he was an apologist during the Daily Show however, he later clarified in
an interview that he was "100 percent sure of dogs".
